Universal Credit claimants are set to receive a rise in payments next year - here is the full list of new rates people can expect.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced an inflation-based rise in his Autumn Statement, with the new payment rate to come in from April 2024. We now have all the new amounts for every element that can be added to or deducted from your benefit payment.

The average payment of Universal Credit ranges from £630 a month to £1,140 depending on whether you are in a single or joint claim and if you have children. The exact amount paid to a claimant depends on the total of the standard allowance plus any extra amounts due for children, disabilities and caring responsibilities. In addition, a housing element is included in the payment to cover some or all of your rent.

For council and housing association tenants, the payment is based on your actual rent and is more likely to cover the whole amount if you are not working. For people renting from private landlords, the Universal Credit housing element is based on the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) for the area where you live. This allowance was increased in the Autumn Statement, reports Birmingham Live.

Mr Hunt said: "The Government has decided to increase Universal Credit and other benefits from next April by 6.7% in line with September's inflation figure, an average increase of £470 for 5.5 million households next year. Vital support to those on the very lowest incomes."

Housing elements are not listed in the Government figures for uprating benefits because there is no set amount. They vary for each claimant depending on your age, who you live with, rent levels in your area and other factors such as a disability. Below is an outline of how every element of Universal Credit will increase next April.
